1 Who are the South Saami, and where do they live?

The Saami are an indigenous people spread over a large area, streching from North-West Russia, and over the Northern parts of Sweden, Finland and Norway. The Saamis constitute minority populations in all of these nations. In the South Saami language, this traditional territory of the Saami people is called Saepmie.  

The traditional territory of the South Saami stretches over the middle parts of Norway and Sweden, from the Saltfjell mountains and the Ume river in the North to the municipalities Engerdal (Norway) and Älvdalen (Sweden) in the south.
