Some people call it West Frisian in order to differentiate it from two other Frisian languages that are spoken in Germany. These languages are called North Frisian and Sater Frisian. With approximately <a href=\"https:\/\/taalportaal.org\/taalportaal\/topic\/pid\/topic-14225224491227143\">450.000<\/a> speakers[footnote]https:\/\/taalportaal.org\/taalportaal\/topic\/pid\/topic-14225224491227143[\/footnote] (Klinkenberg et al 2018, taalportaal, taalatlas 2020), the Frisian that is spoken in Frysl\u00e2n is the Frisian language with the biggest number of speakers.\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<code>[h5p id=\"7\"]<\/code>\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<img class=\"size-medium wp-image-167 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/owlplus.eu\/west-frisian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/06\/dialektkaartsje_Fryslan-300x282.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"282\" \/>The three main regional varieties of West Frisian are Su\u0301dhoeksk, W\u00e2ldfrysk, and Klaaifrysk.\r\n\r\nStandardised Frisian is mainly based on Klaaifrysk but it differs from all three main regional varieties.\r\n\r\nNext to dictionaries and grammar books, standardised Frisian is also codified in teaching materials.
