18 Funding opportunities
The Saami Parliament is an imporant contributor of funding for projects strengthening Saami languages and promoting their use. The Saami Parliament in Norway provides financial support for many kinds of projects and work concerning Saami language, such as:
- creation of games and applications, or translating games and applications into Saami
- development or arranging of Saami teaching courses
- Bible translations into South and Lule Saami
- establishing digital arenas in Saami language, for instance e-sport and social media
- transnational co-operation measures
- documentation of the language; place names, words and traditional knowledge, development of dictionaries etc.
- establisment of Saami kindergartens or Saami units of existing kindergartens, or kindergartens teaching Saami
- measures and actions that makes language resources more available in Saami regions
- language support measures, such as teaching courses and language immersion
However, there are restrictions to what is supported and which types of projects that are not. Contact the Saami Parliament and check if your project may be supported.
Also the Saami Parliament in Sweden offers support to various projects that promote Saami culture.
The Swedish Council of Culture is a unit within the Department of Culture. They offer funding possibilities for projects that concerns the language and culture of national minorities.
Nordic Culture Fond offers possibilities for funding projects that build on and develop collaborations across the Nordic Region. Projects may also involve partners from other countries.
