It protects also the indigenous language of Livonian and Latgalian.<\/em><\/p>\r\n<em>*The Constitutions of the Republic of Latvia is, for the time being, the only official document translated into Latgalian.<\/em>\r\n\r\n<strong>Law on the State Language (in force since September 1st, 2000)<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<em>\u00a73 (1)<strong> The State language of the Republic of Latvia is Latvian.<\/strong><\/em>\r\n\r\n<em>(2) In the Republic of Latvia, everybody has the right to address authorities, societal and religious organisations and businesses (commercial enterprises) and communicate with them in the State language.<\/em>\r\n\r\n<em>(3) The state guarantees the development and use of the Latvian sign language in communication with persons with hearing impairs.<\/em>\r\n\r\n<em>(4) <strong>The state guarantees the maintenance, protection and development of the Latgalian written language as a historical variant of Latvian.<\/strong><\/em>\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<strong>Law on the Latvian Historical Lands (in force on July 1st, 2021)<\/strong>\r\n\r\nPreamble\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Every Latvian historical land has its own unique and distinct signs of Latvianness, traditions, language varieties, and a distinct cultural historical life.
