Large-scale events play a particularly important role in maintaining Latgalian culture. There are many different traditions. The Latgalian language can be heard at the Potters\u2019 Days in the country of R\u0113zekne, which was arranged also in Soviet times, at Anna\u2019s day in Dagda and Bier\u017egale, at the artists\u2019 picnic in L\u016bznava and at other occasions.<\/p>\r\n

There are also different festivals in the region and international events where the use and promotion of the Latgalian language are important aims.<\/p>\r\n

Andrejd\u012bna or Andryva d\u012bna (Andrew\u2019s Day)<\/strong>: Between 1998 and 2018, it was held as an annual event of literature and music which included a competition of new literature, books and song presentations and performances. Following a tradition at R\u0113zekne University College, there were participants from Russia, Poland, Lithuania or Belarus. Several young writers presented their works for the first time at these occasions. The events took place in R\u0113zekne, but occasionally also in L\u016bznava.<\/p>\r\nUp\u012btes Uobe\u013cduorz (Up\u012bte Apple Garden) <\/strong>is a poetry and song festival founded in 2002 by the poet and activist Ontons Sli\u0161\u0101ns. Poets and singers of different generations gather in order to listen to each other. The festival has become popular also outside Latgale. It takes place in Up\u012bte in the County of Balvi.\r\n\r\n[h5p id=\"35\"]\r\n

Muzykys skritu\u013cs (\"Music wheel\")<\/strong>\u00a0or Taiseits Latgol\u0101 (\u201cMade in Latgale\u201d): <\/strong>The \u201cLatgalian Student Centre\u201d has since 2005 held the largest music festival in Latgalian. All groups which participate must sing at least two songs in Latgalian. Initially an annual event, it now takes place once every second year in Leiksna (Upper Daugava County)\u00a0 https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/muzykysskrytuls<\/a><\/p>\r\n

Kroma Kolna bruolistis Festival <\/strong>by the \u201cKrom Hill Brotherhood\u201d https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/p\/Kroma-Kolna-bruoliste\/100057337874501\/<\/a>): Starting in 2015, the \u201cbrotherhood\u201d has been reviving old Latgalian traditions and ways of life, it conducts research on ancient clothes and weapons and reconstructs some of them. The group cooperates with other organisations interested in old Baltic traditions around the Baltic Sea. Every second year, they show their achievements and knowledge to the general public on Pr\u012b\u017eu Hill in the parish of Andrupene in Kr\u0101slava County.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n ","rendered":"
